SunScream doesn’t collect your data. There’s no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We don’t run a server, so there is nowhere for your information to go.
Everything the app knows about you — your skin type, your settings, the latest UV reading — is stored on your iPhone and never sent to us.
SunScream keeps all of the following on your iPhone only:
This is shared between the app and its widgets through a private storage area on your device. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and it is not backed up to any service we control.
SunScream needs your location for one thing: knowing the UV index where you actually are.
Your coordinates are sent to Apple’s WeatherKit service to retrieve the UV forecast for that spot, and to Apple’s geocoding service to turn those coordinates into a place name to show in the app. That request goes from your device straight to Apple. It does not pass through us, and we never see it or store it.
Apple’s handling of those requests is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Apple states that WeatherKit location data is not associated with your Apple Account and is not used to build a profile of you.
If you grant “Always” access, this happens in the background too, so the app can alert you when you head outside without your having to open it. You can change or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; SunScream will simply stop being able to tell you the UV where you are.
SunScream reads motion activity to notice when you’re walking, which is how it works out that you’ve gone outside and should be watched for sun exposure.
This is processed entirely on your device, in the moment. It isn’t recorded, isn’t kept, and never leaves your iPhone. The app also checks whether you’re connected to Wi-Fi as a hint that you’re probably indoors — it looks only at the type of connection, never at the network’s name or its contents.
UV alerts are scheduled and delivered locally by your iPhone. There are no push notifications from a server, because there is no server. Nobody, including us, knows when or whether you were alerted.
We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. The settings and readings on your device stay there until you change them. Deleting SunScream removes all of it from your iPhone immediately and permanently.
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you the right to access, correct, delete, or port the personal data a company holds about you, and to object to its sale.
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to hand over, correct, or erase — and nothing has ever been sold. Your data is already entirely in your hands: it’s on your phone, and deleting the app deletes it. If you’d like to confirm any of this, email us and we’ll gladly explain.
SunScream is safe for all ages and collects no information from anyone, children included. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 — or from adults, for that matter.
If SunScream ever starts handling data differently, we’ll update this page and change the effective date above before the new version ships. You can always come back here to see where things stand.
